Food in Community partner with Devon farmers and producers to glean perfectly edible, surplus, sustainably produced food and to grow more of our own.
This benefits the local community, working with disadvantaged people, including our own fresh food box scheme.
Food in Community initiatives:
Collecting and distributing surplus fresh produce
Gleaning produce from local farms
Cookery workshops and demonstrations
Monthly ‘pay what you feel’ community lunch cafe
Local community events
Food Gathering & Deliveries
They harvest or collect and then redistribute fresh, mostly organic and surplus produce that is perfectly edible but would otherwise be composted or thrown away by local farms and producers.
It enables all sorts of wonderful provision that help disadvantaged people in Devon, from their own fresh food boxes discreetly delivered to the doorstep, hot meals, to cooking clubs, to community events.
A Big Thank you from Food In Community
Food In Community stands as a shining example of what a united community can achieve
Pay What You Feel Dining
Using all the ingredients collected, every month volunteers make and serve hot lunch buffet where people can pay what you can afford.
The menu changes with the season but is vegetarian, child friendly, and there’s a good spread for vegans and some gluten free options. Their chef team works with mostly organic surplus produce and acoustic musicians elevate lunch to a real event to look forward to.
